Two big goals in my life were to have a natural birth and to run a marathon. I never dreamed that it would take having 4 children before I finally achieved my goal of a natural birth. I also never imagined the healing that would come from that experience or the feeling of accomplishment I would have from doing it. This is what led me to become a doula.  For a number of reasons, my first two births did not go as naturally as I had hoped. By the time I was pregnant with my third, I was quite determined to make it happen. However, some unexpected events unfolded during the end of that pregnancy that led to a medically necessary pre-term induction that ultimately ended in an emergency c-section. Though I felt we had made the best decisions we could, my biggest regret was not having a doula with us through the process. As soon as I got pregnant with my fourth, we knew we wanted to plan a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and hire a doula. With her help, and by God's grace, I not only had a successful VBAC, but a successful natural birth as well!  As soon as my son was born, my husband began encouraging me to train as a doula because he saw the passion I had for birth.  So, in June 2013, I went to The Farm in Summertown, TN for my doula training through CAPPA and became a Certified Labor Doula in 2014. Since then I have attended 80+ births, which have included first time mothers, seasoned mothers, pre-term deliveries, twins, and vaginal birth after cesarean.
I have been privileged to get to know many families and to help them write a birth story that they can share with a smile on their face. The opportunity to see a woman uncover the strength God has placed within her fills me with awe and admiration.
