My first thought about becoming a doula came to me when my husband and I felt God calling our family to the mission field. We knew God was calling us there not long after we returned from Uganda with our two adopted sons. The reality that so many women-whether in third world countries or in the US-do not have the love and support during childbirth that they needed weighed heavily on my heart. I did not have the support I needed during the births of my first children, but I wanted to be able to be there for women during their pregnancies and births, and I knew becoming a doula would allow me to do that. I wanted to use the skills and knowledge I would attain to help change lives, both here and in Africa.
I began my training in 2014 through CAPPA to become a Certified Labor Doula. I have learned so many wonderful things about being able to support and love women during pregnancy and childbirth! For the last two years, God has allowed me to practice this love and support as we served in the bush of northern Uganda. Our family transitioned back to the states in July, and I am excited to be able to continue serving expecting moms here during this amazing time in their lives.
